About UYAA

The Utah Youth Advisory Association (UYAA) exists to strengthen youth voice through civic learning, democratic practice, and practical policy advising.

Purpose

UYAA helps young Utahns build leadership skills by participating in a transparent, youth-led system: debating issues, drafting bills and advisories, electing representatives, and engaging with real-world questions that affect students and communities. Our purpose is both internal and external:

  • Internally, UYAA governs its members through adopted rules, elections, and branch roles—so the organization stays fair, accountable, and member-driven.
  • Externally, UYAA may advise Utah leaders and the public with youth-informed recommendations—always as a civic association sharing perspectives, not as a government decision-maker.

Not a government agency

UYAA is not a state agency, school district program, or court. It does not exercise legal governmental authority. Positions, bills, and advisories are organizational and educational unless otherwise adopted by an outside body through its own processes.

Disclaimer: Information on this site describes UYAA’s internal youth civic model and general civic education. It is not legal advice.

How advising works

When UYAA publishes advisories or recommendations, they are meant to inform leaders and communities about youth priorities and evidence-based ideas. Leaders and institutions remain responsible for their own decisions and policies.
